Technical support Organisation to Strengthen Project Management Capacity for CHIPS program in Niger State

Description of the project:

The Niger State Government needed to be supported to transform the Niger State primary health care (PHC) system to deliver quality, affordable and sustainable healthcare services to all the people in the state. With a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Malaria Consortium (MC) supported the Niger State Ministry of Health and the State Primary Health Care Development Agency to improve lives through sustainable, evidence-based interventions including support for the community-based health workers program and more specifically the recently rolled-out CHIPS program.

The CHIPS program is integral to primary health care (PHC) and like all health interventions requires strong leadership and institutional capacities to produce the best results. MC engaged Peltom Global Services (PGS) to provide technical assistance for the strengthening of the program management capacity in support of the CHIPS program in Niger state.

Malaria Consortium (MC) supported the PHC revitalization efforts in Niger state, with a grant from BMGF, to provide wraparound technical assistance for the community-based PHC interventions, to (a) build the capacity of the state to manage and oversee services under the community health intervention program (b) design a State-led delivery of a service package of community health interventions and (c) gather and share evidence for implementation of CHIPS programme at state-wide scale.

Interventions: PGS limited provided technical assistance to the Programme Implementation Unit (PIU) of the CHIPS Programme to help build consensus on required changes in the management structure for CHIPS in the state, build their capacity and mentored them to be able to take over after the BMGF-MC grant ends.
