Technical Support Organisation to Strengthen Leadership and Institutional Capacity for CHIPS program in Niger State

Description of the Project:

The interventions covered identified institutions and the leadership of the relevant MDAs relevant to CHIPS at the state and LGA level in Niger state, with statutory roles for policy and guidelines development, capacity building and service delivery, among others. It included capacity assessments to identify the core problems and issues related to institutional capacity and leadership development. The intervention needed to be built around the key statutory roles of the relevant government institutions at the state and LGA levels, and the core elements of leadership and institutional capacity.

The objectives of the project:

To strengthen the capacity of the institutions and the leadership responsible for CHIPS specifically in building leadership knowledge, and skills for

1. Improved governance

2. Improved management for effective resource utilization, and service delivery

3. Building partnerships, especially for the mobilization of resources (d) organizational learning, and

4. Human resource improvement for better performance.

Interventions:

With funding support from BMGF, PGS Ltd provided technical support to Niger SPHCDA to improve the delivery of Primary Health Care through a strengthened CHIPS programme towards the achievement of the Niger health system restoration agenda tagged Health 1.0. The health indices of Niger state like many parts of Nigeria are poor and require logical review, identification of the gaps in the implementation of the State Health plans as well as the capacity gaps at the leadership and institutional levels. PGS Ltd developed and delivered interventions that allowed the relevant institutions and persons with responsibility for health to deliver and achieve their mandates.
